Improving climate resilience

THE DENNERY POLYCLINIC REDESIGN WILL ENSURE LONGEVITY OF THE COUNTRY’S INVESTMENT.
by Janelle Norville, GIS

Small Island Developing States like Saint Lucia continue to fall victim to the effects of climate change. In recent times, the Caribbean region has witnessed an increase in major hurricanes and severe weather occurrences.

Since then, the Government of Saint Lucia has expressed its intention to ensure all steps are taken to increase resilience, and improve climate mitigation and adaptation efforts.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Mr. Ivor Movelle Daniel, referred to the construction of the Dennery Polyclinic, and said that steps were being taken to address the challenges. The chosen site for the polyclinic is in Bois Jolie, Dennery. The Permanent Secretary indicated that while the decision to redesign the plan will delay the project, it is imperative that the necessary steps are taken to ensure the longevity of the country’s asset.

When completed, the project should provide a wider range of services than what obtains at the Dennery Hospital. Upon completion of the Dennery Polyclinic, the Dennery Hospital will be decommissioned.
