Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Internal Audit Assistant, Water & Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO).
Position Summary
The Internal Audit Assistant will provide direct support to the Senior Internal Auditor in undertaking audits of all systems against applicable laws, legislation, regulations and company policies and procedures in accordance with the Department’s audit plans.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Senior Internal Auditor in planning audits and developing audit programmes by conducting background research of departments being audited.




Examine and interpret legislation, relevant statutes, rules and regulations covering the departments being audited;
Examine and interpret accounting and auditing policies, financial statements, management reports, policies and procedures, previous audit reports, subject files, contracts, agreements and management directives and correspondence to ensure that the audit is planned according to Internal Audit standards.
Determine the extent of tests warranted for various phases of the audit by evaluating internal control procedures in order to increase the efficiency of the audit.
Carry out audit assignments by performing various auditing techniques in departments, undertake segments of special assignments, studies, and enquires in order that the Internal Auditor may comply with responsibilities set out in the Internal Audit Charter.
Outline the extent of the audit and investigation and the related results based on the objectives set by compiling detailed working papers and supporting schedules, in order to effectively communicate the findings of the audit to the Internal Auditor and establish the basis for any follow – up action required.
Prepare an audit point sheet of the audit conducted by identifying audit findings and the cause and effect of these findings for inclusion in the final audit report.
Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to.
Communicate, implement and interpret new and existing policies and procedures to direct report.




Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Management Studies plus two (2) years’ experience in internal audit or related field.
OR
Completion of Level 1 ACCA or Level II CGA plus three years’ experience in auditing or accounting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, accounting packages and CAATs.
Ability to interpret rules regulations, operating procedures, generally accepted accounting practices, IFRS, IAS, and collective agreements.
Ability to develop and train work force, build relationships, utilize skills of team most appropriately.
Ability to motivate team and coach for enhanced performance.
Strong numerical and computation ability.
Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner, and listen attentively to others and to provide instructions to employees.
Conflict resolution skills.
