Labour Department Steps Up Workplace Inspections in Soufriere

by Department of Labour
DURING THE EXERCISE, OFFICERS ASSESSED WORKPLACE CONDITIONS AND EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES AGAINST THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LABOUR ACT.

The Department of Labour is stepping up its efforts to promote workplace compliance, with Labour Officers recently conducting a series of inspections at establishments across Soufriere.

The inspections, conducted on September 25, 2026, formed part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to ensure that employers are complying with the provisions of the Labour Act and that employees are working in safe, suitable and appropriate conditions.

Labour Officers carried out walkthroughs and impromptu visits at several establishments, including the Soufriere Beach Park, Soufriere Regional Development Foundation, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Sulphur Springs, Rubis Gas Station, Cool Breeze Service Station, Soufriere Marine Management Association and Soufriere FM.

During the exercise, officers assessed workplace conditions and employment practices against the requirements of the Labour Act. The inspections also provided an opportunity for officers to engage directly with employers and employees, observe working conditions and identify areas requiring attention.

The Department is reminding employers of their responsibility to maintain appropriate employment standards and ensure that employees are provided with working conditions that meet the requirements of the law.

The workplace inspection programme forms part of the Department of Labour’s broader commitment to strengthening workplace compliance, promoting fair employment practices and fostering harmonious labour relations throughout Saint Lucia.

The Department will continue to engage workplaces across the country, as it works to promote greater awareness of labour standards and compliance with the law.
