The Department of Labour, Co-operatives and Consumer Affairs, led by Minister Hon. Emma Hippolyte, has initiated discussions with representatives of Saint Lucia’s fuel retailers and petroleum dealers on the sustainability of businesses within the sector.
The meeting, held on August 10, 2026, focused on the existing retail margin and the challenges currently affecting fuel retailers and petroleum dealers. Stakeholders discussed the case for a possible adjustment to the retail margin, while also considering the potential implications for consumers and the wider cost of living.
A range of options and possible solutions were examined during the discussions, with both Government and industry representatives recognising the need for a balanced approach that considers the viability of businesses while protecting consumers from unnecessary increases in the cost of living.
