The Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO), in collaboration with the Government of Saint Lucia, has officially commenced works to upgrade the northern pipeline between the Bonne Terre Gap and the Gros Islet Town Gap, as of Sunday 23 August 2026.

The project will replace the existing 14-inch cast iron main, installed in the early 1980s to convey water from Castries to Gros Islet, with a new 20-inch ductile iron pipeline. This section of the main has reached the end of its service life and is prone to frequent leaks, affecting the company’s ability to supply the required volumes of water to the area.

This phase continues the upgrade of the northern transmission main, building on works completed in 2022. The works are being carried out in coordination with Phase One of the Sir Julian R. Hunte Highway and Secondary Roads Improvement Project (Monchy to Gros Islet), allowing the new pipeline to be aligned with the road design.

During these works, motorists and pedestrians may encounter lane restrictions and temporary traffic management along the corridor. Members of the public are asked to use alternative routes where possible and to allow additional time for their journeys.
