Inventory Clerk
Position Summary
The Inventory Clerk is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, monitoring stock levels, and supporting the efficient storage and distribution of goods. This role ensures that all inventory transactions are properly recorded and that stock levels are maintained to support operational needs while minimizing waste and loss. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
Duties And Responsibilities Include:
Inventory Control & Monitoring
• Maintain accurate records of all inventory items using the company’s inventory management system.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages, discrepancies, or overstock situations to management.
• Conduct regular physical inventory counts (daily, weekly, and monthly) and reconcile with system records.
• Investigate and report inventory variances.
Receiving & Issuing of Goods
• Assist with the receiving of goods and verify quantities against purchase orders and delivery notes.
• Ensure all items received are in good condition and meet company standards.
• Record all incoming and outgoing stock accurately and in a timely manner.
• Issue supplies to departments based on approved requisitions.
Storage & Organization
• Ensure storerooms are clean, organized, and properly labeled.
• Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures where applicable.
• Monitor expiry dates and ensure proper stock rotation.
• Ensure safe storage practices in accordance with health and safety standards.
Documentation & Reporting
• Prepare inventory reports as required.
• Maintain proper filing of delivery notes, requisitions, and stock records.
• Assist in preparing monthly inventory summaries for management review.
Compliance & Controls
• Adhere to company policies and internal control procedures.
• Safeguard company assets and report any suspected loss, theft, or damage.
• Participate in internal and external audits as required.
Skills
• Mathematical Proficiency: Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in work.
• Computer Skills: spreadsheet programs (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
• Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Communication Skills: Clear written and verbal communication abilities.
Qualifications
Education
• CXC passes including Mathematics and English.
• Certificate or training in Inventory Management, Stores Management, or related field (an asset).
• Proficiency in basic computer applications and inventory systems.
Experience
Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in inventory, stores, or purchasing (hospitality experience preferred).
