THE ANNUAL OBSERVANCE SERVED AS AN IMPORTANT PLATFORM TO HONOR THE PEOPLE WHOS HARD WORK, INNOVATION, AND COMMITMENT CONTINUE TO DRIVE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION AND SUPPORT FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY

Farmers from Region Four were recognized for their dedication, resilience, and invaluable contribution to Saint Lucia’s food security during the Region Four Farmers’ Appreciation Day 2026, held at the TVET School in Anse Ger, Micoud, under the theme “Celebrating Those Who Grow Our Future.”

The annual observance served as an important platform to honor the men and women whose hard work, innovation, and commitment continue to drive agricultural production and support food and nutrition security across the island. Region Four, which encompasses several productive farming communities, plays a significant role in the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, root crops, livestock, and other agricultural commodities that contribute to both local consumption and economic activity.

The event brought together farmers, agricultural stakeholders, sponsors, extension officers, representatives of partner organizations, and government officials to acknowledge the vital role of the agricultural community in sustaining livelihoods, strengthening rural economies, and supporting national development. Participants reflected on the challenges and opportunities facing the sector, including climate change, market access, technological advancement, and the importance of attracting younger generations to agriculture.

The programme featured inspiring farmer testimonials, presentations from agricultural professionals, stakeholder remarks, and an awards ceremony recognizing individuals and groups who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, innovation, and long-standing service within the agricultural sector. The celebration also highlighted the importance of value-added production, climate-smart agriculture, and continuous learning as key drivers of a more resilient and competitive agricultural industry.

As Saint Lucia continues to strengthen its food security agenda, the Department of Agriculture encourages citizens, communities, and private sector partners to support local farmers by purchasing locally grown produce, investing in agricultural development, and embracing the national call to grow what we eat and eat what we grow. Together, we can build a more resilient, sustainable, and food-secure future for generations to come.
