The Government of Saint Lucia, through the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project (CARDTP), today hosted a Safer Cyber Spaces โ€“ In-Person Institutional Session, bringing together public sector professionals, law enforcement, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and institutional readiness.
The workshop, supported by the World Bank, was delivered in collaboration with the OECS Commission and CARICOM IMPACS as part of a broader regional initiative being implemented across Saint Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The initiative aims to enhance digital resilience across the public sector by promoting best practices in cybersecurity and improving coordination among institutions.
The session focused on strengthening digital hygiene, identifying operational and procedural gaps, and enhancing the capacity of public institutions to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats. Participants also explored the importance of consistent cyber practices in maintaining public trust in digital government systems.
In her remarks, Project Manager of the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project, Mrs. Sheralin Monrose-Gustave, underscored the urgency of strengthening cybersecurity within the public sector:
โ€œAs governments across the Caribbean continue to expand digital services, cybersecurity must be treated as a shared responsibility. Civil servants are custodians of national data and public trust, and strengthening institutional awareness is critical to building resilient systems capable of supporting our digital future.โ€
The workshop forms part of the ongoing Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Public Awareness Campaign, which targets a wide cross-section of society, including public institutions, youth, women, seniors, and businesses. The campaign promotes safe online behaviour while supporting national and regional efforts to build a more secure digital environment.
This engagement also supports broader CARDTP initiatives, including the establishment of a Government Cybersecurity Incident Response Team (CIRTT), the development of a National Cybersecurity Strategy, and the implementation of coordinated cybersecurity frameworks across participating countries.
Regional assessments have highlighted that increased digitalization has expanded exposure to cyber threats such as phishing, ransomware, identity theft, and unauthorized access to sensitive data. In response, the CARDTP and its partners continue to prioritize capacity building, awareness, and institutional strengthening as key pillars of digital transformation.
The Safer Cyber Spaces initiative represents a significant step toward enhancing institutional resilience and fostering greater collaboration across government agencies and regional partners.
Members of the public and stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed by following the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project โ€“ Saint Lucia and regional platforms such as Caribbean Connect for updates, resources, and upcoming initiatives.
